MINNEAPOLIS, April 23, 2025 — The Journal of School Psychology has published a new peer-reviewed article by Annie Goerdt, PhD, Director of Research & Impact at The Zones of Regulation. The publication, titled “Validity Evidence of the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener – Teacher Rating Scale: A Systematic Review & Quantitative Synthesis,” offers a comprehensive analysis of the psychometric validity of one of the most widely used universal screening tools in schools today.
In the article, Goerdt, who holds a doctorate in Educational Psychology, synthesizes over a decade of research to evaluate the technical adequacy of the SAEBRS-Teacher Rating Scale. The article sheds light on its strengths and limitations in identifying student risk across social, academic, and emotional domains. Her findings provide critical guidance for practitioners and policymakers seeking evidence-based tools to support early identification and intervention.
“This work is about ensuring that the tools we use to support kids are backed by strong, transparent science,” says Goerdt. “As schools become more data-driven, it’s essential that we’re critically examining the validity of the screeners we rely on.”
As part of its broader mission, The Zones of Regulation continues to lead with research-informed practices and offers a suite of resources that support emotional regulation and overall well-being in schools, clinics, and homes.
The Journal of School Psychology is a leading academic journal that publishes rigorous research advancing evidence-based practice in school psychology and educational settings.
