Real Stories, Real Impact: Listening to Our Zones Community

June 4th, 2025

At The Zones of Regulation, we know that the most meaningful growth comes from listening—truly listening—to the educators, clinicians, caregivers, and learners who engage with our Digital Curriculum every day. Over the past year, we’ve deepened our connection with our Zones users in countless ways: one-on-one conversations, classroom observations, collaborative meetings with school teams, research studies, and surveys that assess impact and outcomes.

Each interaction shapes and refines our Digital Curriculum, ensuring that it continues to be accessible, effective, and impactful.

Voices from The Zones Digital Curriculum Community

Educators, caregivers, and school leaders have shared their experiences. These direct quotes highlight the ways The Zones is making a difference in emotional regulation and classroom climate. The feedback speaks volumes about the curriculum’s impact.

I am shocked at the depth of these resources. I have taught Zones for many years, and your new curriculum has really expanded. I love the visuals, the colors, the iconic parts. But, I also love that you talk about body signs, triggers, etc. I feel like this package is a comprehensive unit. I also am blown away at the ease of teaching it, with differentiated handouts, parent communication, data collection forms, and even adult professional development. I also appreciate how easy it is to use with our smartboards, and its interactivity.

I started digging deeper into the digital curriculum and I have to say this is an answer to prayers. My daughter has profound hearing loss, and we are navigating emotional regulation without audible language. Turns out she is also very neuroSPICY too! She just started using an AAC device at school and home, and Zones is going to fit in SO WELL with her device and visual boards.

The main outcome that I have seen with Zones this year is a decrease in classroom referrals. Teachers now have more tools in their toolbox to support students’ emotional needs, and we also have [a] common language we can use across the building when checking in with students. We have had a lot of success in using Zones this year.

— Principal

I’ve seen meaningful growth in my students’ ability to recognize and manage their emotions using The Zones of Regulation. Many now confidently use terms like ‘Green Zone’ or ‘Yellow Zone’ to describe their feelings, and our daily check-ins have become a cornerstone of our classroom routine.

I like that it doesn’t [pose] that emotions/energy levels are ‘good’ or ‘bad’ … It empowers folks to decide how they want to apply what they observe about their bodies to better meet their goals.

The Data Behind the Stories

These stories are backed by what we’re hearing from Zones Leaders in our ongoing Digital Curriculum user surveys.

  • 94% of educators reported a positive impact on students’ self-awareness—their ability to understand and reflect on their emotions and behavior.
  • 93% saw improvements in self-management, including how students regulate their thoughts, emotions, and actions across different settings.
  • Additional results are highlighted in the graphic below.
